Scotty McCreery gave his hometown congregation at First Baptist Church of Garner a special treat, performing a duet with his mom.
It’s always pretty special to see mega-country music stars doing regular, everyday things. Recently, Scotty McCreery had one of those moments when he celebrated Easter like the rest of us…in his hometown at the church he grew up in with his family.
McCreery and his mother performed at the First Baptist Church of Garner in Garner, N.C., during an Easter service; the video of the performance, which you can watch below, was filmed by Scotty’s dad Michael McCreery.
From the clip, it’s clear that singing runs in the family!
The two sang “New Again,” which Sara Evans and Brad Paisley recorded for the Passion of the Christ soundtrack. The song is emotional and touching, with the singers taking on the roles of Mary and Jesus, making it the perfect song for an Easter service.
“I’m not ashamed [of my faith], but I know that everyone doesn’t agree with me,” says McCreery. “I think especially in the country music world, if there’s anyone that’s going to accept it, it’ll be them.”
“When you’re out there talking about your faith and what you believe in, you’ll face some backlash,” McCreery admits. “But mostly, I’ve received support.”
McCreery is currently working on his next record, and he’s planning for a more traditional country sound with a little more depth. Although the project is expected sometime in the third or fourth quarter of 2015, he’s stayed relatively quiet about it — but he is adamant that he and his team are taking their time.
“We’re not looking for a quick single,” he says. “Honestly, we’re starting at ground zero.”
