Mickey Guyton didn't know that attending a Texas Rangers baseball game would alter her life.
Country music newcomer Mickey Guyton was only eight-years-old when she first saw LeAnn Rimes perform live, that moment sparked Guyton’s desire to pursue music and set her on her current path.
“My church drove to Arlington, Texas, from Waco to see a Texas Rangers baseball game,” Guyton relayed to CMT. “We were all the way up in the nosebleed section, and the announcer says, ‘Please rise as 10-year-old LeAnn Rimes sings the National Anthem.’”
Young Rimes was still a few years away from discovering stardom with her smash hit song “Blue,” but Guyton says that she was already inspired by Rimes long before that moment and started singing for small crowds in her hometown.
“I started doing solos in the church choir or when the school had a talent show,” she says. “I’d bring my boom box, and I’d sing “I Will Always Love You.” I was just mesmerized by big-voiced women. So from LeAnn, I started listening to Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline and Patty Loveless and Reba McEntire and Faith Hill and Martina McBride.”
The “Better Than You Left Me” singer just recently released her self-titled debut EP and is currently on the road with Brad Paisley‘s 2015 Crushin’ It World Tour. Her debut track also made history as the tune with the highest one-week add total on a debut release in the history of Country Aircheck, with 79 adds on the day of its release.
Obviously, the 31-year-old songbird has taken notes from the success of the female artists before her and is blazing her own trail. Keep an eye on this exciting new talent!
