Martina McBride to Receive the Harry Chapin Memorial Humanitarian Award

Martina McBride will be honored with the award at the Music Business Association’s 2015 Awards Luncheon coming up May 14 in Nashville.

Over her 20 year career, Martina McBride has become well known for her service to the community. She will now be officially recognized with the Harry Chapin Memorial Humanitarian Award.

The award recognizes Martina’s philanthropic efforts on behalf of domestic violence prevention. Over the years, Martina has hosted the Middle Tennessee YWCA Celebrity Auction to raise money for programs that help domestic violence victims. She has also served as the spokesperson for the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the National Network to End Domestic Violence and other organizations.

Her past hits “Independence Day” and “A Broken Wing” have addressed the issue of domestic abuse in powerful, emotional terms.

“I believe that anyone blessed enough to achieve success has a responsibility to help those in need,” Martina said in a release about the award. “While my goal was never to be recognized for my charitable efforts, this award is proof that we can all make a difference, no matter how small, in the lives of others.“

Congratulations Martina!
