Listen to Kacey Musgraves’ Collaboration With Beach Boy’s Founder Brian Wilson

Kacey Musgraves is going California old-school with her new collaboration with the Beach Boys‘ Brian Wilson.

Kacey Musgraves is absolutely the definition of versatility. Her music has jumped outside of the cookie-cutter box that most female country music artists have been pushed in to. Now, she is pairing up with a legend to make more unexpected music that fans are sure to love.

“Guess You Had To Be There” is one of the tracks featured on Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson’s upcoming album, No Pier Pressure, due out April 7.

Musgraves sings the verses on the breezy track before Wilson enters on the chorus.

“When it’s good it’s good, when it’s not—do it again. But after three tries, Kacey nailed it,” Wilson tells Rolling Stone.

“I like the way she just slides over the notes—she has a very cool sound.”

Wilson’s upcoming album also includes duets with fun.’s Nate Ruess, She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward and Capital Cities’ Sebu Simonian. Also collaborating with Wilson are several of his former Beach Boys bandmates, including Al Jardine, David Marks and Blondie Chaplin.

Kacey also has her own new music out with the single “Biscuits,” her first release from the follow-up to her acclaimed major-label debut, Same Trailer Different Park.

In June, she and Sturgill Simpson will represent country music at the more rock-oriented Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn.
