The new single from Kacey Musgraves, "Biscuits", has a powerful message.

Country darling Kacey Musgraves has released the first track off her forthcoming sophomore album.

Musgraves wrote “Biscuits” last year with Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark (the same writers she teamed up with on her previous single, the ACM Award-nominated song “Follow Your Arrow“).

Part of Kacey Musgraves‘ charm is she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She considers herself a bit clumsy, a bit un-refined, and completely Texas-genuine. Kacey felt like the song “Biscuits” was her gift to her fans, a mantra that she likes to live by.

“If I had any amount of advice to hand out to the world,” she told the crowd. “I feel like this would be it.” Musgraves says referring to the lyrics of “Biscuits”.

“I’ve never gotten taller makin’ someone else feel small,” Musgraves sings against a banjo-led arrangement. “If you ain’t got nothin’ nice to say, don’t say nothin’ at all.”

Musgraves then makes her message even clearer when she reaches the song’s chorus: “Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy.”

As a celebration of individualism, “Biscuits” also turns out to be a perfect follow-up to “Follow Your Arrow.”

Musgraves’ previous single, “Follow Your Arrow” also had a bold message of social acceptance, centering around the song’s now-famous chorus:

“So, make lots of noise/ Kiss lots of boys/ Or kiss lots of girls/ If that’s something you’re into.”

And what she told us in 2013 about “Arrow” can apply to the message behind “Biscuits” as well.

“Regardless of your political beliefs, everybody should be able to love who they want to love and live how they want to live,” Musgraves said.

“We’re all driven by the same emotions; we all want to be loved and want to feel the same things. So, hopefully people will put aside their personal, political agenda and just agree with that fact.”
