Eric Church turned a bad situation into a once in a lifetime concert for fans.

A stomach bug usually means a cancelled performance, however in Eric Church‘s case it means making lemonade out of the lemons that life has thrown.

Most of his crew was sick with a stomach bug that he seemed to escape, so instead of canceling his Saturday night (Jan. 31) concert in Salt Lake City, he decided to do the show by himself.

Using a scaled-back stage setup, Church played an 18-song set mostly solo, just himself and acoustic guitar. He was, however, joined by Lizzy Hale — whose band Halestorm has been opening for Church throughout his Outsiders World Tour — on ‘That’s Damn Rock and Roll.’

“If you’ve seen our show so far on this tour, you’re probably wondering what the hell is going on right now. Well, so am I,” Church told the crowd as he took the stage.

“Here’s the deal: Yesterday, we had the stomach flu strike our band, our crew, everyone. We had no one to hang video, lights, nothing. But I’m still here. I’m still standing.

“We’ve talked about how every show on the Outsiders Tour is different. Well, tonight will be the most different one,” he added. “S–t, there’s nobody left. It’s just me. I’m going to give you everything I got.”

Although it’s hard to imagine being disappointed to be in attendance for such a unique concert, Salt Lake City ticket holders will get their chance to see the full-scale Outsiders World Tour experience, as Church also announced a makeup show, set for May 25.
