Canaan Smith got quite the shock and some really big news Friday night!
Rising country star Canaan Smith got quite a welcome surprise while belting out “Love You Like That” during his opening set at Dierks Bentley‘s Washington, D.C. 2015 Sounds of Summer tour stop on Friday. Bentley, Kip Moore, Maddie & Tae, and other band members rushed the stage in creative outfits to celebrate Smith’s first No. 1 hit! Yes, that’s Dierks in the owl mask.
The 32-year-old singer appears happily surprised by the unexpected celebration. During a recent Radio.com interview, Smith explained that he brokered a deal with the head of promotion at his label in the event his single became a chart-topper, “He was wanting to buy a Jeep,” Smith explained. “I said, ‘Why don’t you wait? And if ‘Love You Like That’ goes No. 1, you buy the Jeep and I’ll trick it out. I’ll jack it up. I’ll put the tires, the wheels, the tow package, black it out. Whatever you want to do.’ That’s our deal.”
The agreement escalates if “Love You Like That” spends more than one week at the top of the charts.
“If it goes No. 1 for more than one week, which would be unreal, I’m going to buy the whole damn thing. He deserves it if that’s the case. Jeeps are great.”
Besides promising sweet rides, the Virginia native took some time to thank fans for helping rocket his track to the top!
#1 song in country music… can’t thank y’all enough!! #loveyoulikethat
