Another entertaining American Music Awards ceremony has come and gone. Let’s recap how country music’s elite fared in sunny Los Angeles, CA last night!
A deserving Carrie Underwood was crowned Favorite Female Artist: Country and debuted her new single “Heartbeat” much to the delight of the lively audience. Check out her emotional performance below.
Favorite Male Artist: Country winner Luke Bryan and Little Big Town‘s Karen Fairchild provided the evening with a sultry duet of “Home Alone Tonight,” view the amazing footage after the jump. But the real surprise of the night was— Sam Hunt‘s victory over Fetty Wap, Tove Lo, WALK THE MOON, and The Weeknd for the all-genre New Artist of the Year distinction.
“Thank you,” Hunt said, sounding shocked, as he accepted the award. The singer continued to recognize “all the people who voted me up here tonight,” and all of those in Nashville who “put your faith in me” and “were down for the long haul.”
“I’m proud to represent country music tonight,” Hunt stated. “… Y’all have a good night, AMAs. Thank you.”
Love him or hate him, Sam Hunt is making waves and catching attention with his unique musical style.
