Last January, Lyle Lovett hit the road and went acoustic with fellow country music icon Vince Gill. The pair will revisit that format in early 2016 and embark on a 13-city tour across the lower southeastern United States.
“I know Lyle won’t have a plan,” Gill recently stated, “and I won’t either. What he plays will inspire me, and probably vice-versa. It’ll be like playing ping-pong. Whatever song he chooses to sing will inspire the next song that comes out of me.”
The setup of the Songs and Stories Tour will be delightfully simple with Gill and Lovett taking multiple turns at the mic, casually playing some songs alone and others as a duo. Fans can expect a relaxed atmosphere and pure musical enchantment.
“I enjoy shows that are not planned out,” Lovett adds. “This will be two songwriters in the round. It’s informal, so there will be lots of ad-libbing. It will be like little snapshots of our experiences.”
“Just two guys sitting on stools, telling stories and singing songs,” Gill explains. “No big bands. I saw James Taylor once with just him and his guitar, and after that show I felt like I knew him a whole lot better than I ever did before. That’s what’ll happen between Lyle and me, too, and I’m looking forward to it.”
The first tour of this kind was a major success, it will be incredible to see Gill and Lovett hit the stage together once again!
